Neurotech Lab

Neurotech Lab: Build Brain-Computer Interfaces with a BCI Startup. A 4–8 weeks Intravarsity career experience (30–50 hours) for school and undergraduate stude

Floor 7's Neurotech Studio houses startups building the next generation of brain-computer interfaces. Using professional-grade EEG headsets and signal processing workstations, you'll record brainwaves, build machine learning classifiers for mental states, and create a working neurofeedback app — mentored by real neuroscientists.

Record and decode brain signals in our San Francisco campus Neurotech Studio. Work alongside a BCI startup — analyze EEG data, train classifiers on mental states, and build a real neurofeedback application.

Who it is for

High school, secondary school students & undergraduates. Interest in brain science or psychology. No coding experience required.

Weekly plan

Week 1: Brain Signals & Recording

  • Learn brain anatomy and neural communication from the startup's neuroscientist
  • Set up OpenBCI EEG headset and record your own brain signals
  • Visualize alpha, beta, theta, and delta brainwaves in real-time
  • Learn signal processing fundamentals with Python (NumPy, SciPy)

Week 2: Signal Processing & Pattern Recognition

  • Apply FFT to decompose brain signals into frequency components
  • Filter noise and extract meaningful neural patterns
  • Build classifiers to detect attention vs. relaxation states
  • Compare brain activity across different cognitive tasks

Week 3: Machine Learning for BCI

  • Train ML classifiers on mental states using scikit-learn
  • Build a real-time BCI that responds to concentration levels
  • Implement audio/visual neurofeedback loops
  • Test with multiple participants in the Neurotech Studio

Week 4: App & Research Presentation

  • Design and build a neurofeedback training application
  • Compile findings into a research poster with the startup's branding
  • Present at Neurotech Demo Day to BCI founders and researchers
  • Receive recommendation and Proof-of-Work credential

What you produce

  • Working neurofeedback application
  • Research poster with EEG analysis
  • Annotated EEG dataset
  • Neurotech startup recommendation
  • Intravarsity Proof-of-Work credential
