EdTech Product Builder
EdTech Product Builder: Build a Learning Tool for an Education Startup. A 4–8 weeks Intravarsity career experience (30–50 hours) for school and undergraduate
You'll work with an edtech startup to design a new learning feature or tool. Combining learning science with product design, you'll research how students learn, design adaptive learning experiences, and build interactive prototypes that the startup tests with real users.
Design and build a learning experience for a real edtech startup — from pedagogy research to UX design to interactive prototyping. Your work ships to real students.
Who it is for
High school, secondary school students & undergraduates. Interest in education, design, or technology.
Weekly plan
Week 1: Learning Science & User Research
- Meet the edtech startup and understand their learning product
- Study learning science — spaced repetition, active recall, cognitive load
- Conduct interviews with 5 students to understand learning pain points
- Define the learning challenge and design brief
Week 2: Instructional & UX Design
- Design learning sequences using evidence-based pedagogy
- Create wireframes and user flows for the learning experience
- Build adaptive logic — how the tool responds to student performance
- Get feedback from the startup's learning designer
Week 3: Interactive Prototyping
- Build high-fidelity interactive prototypes in Figma or code
- Add gamification elements — streaks, achievements, progress tracking
- Design for accessibility and diverse learning styles
- Prepare usability testing protocol for student testing
Week 4: User Testing & Delivery
- Run usability tests with 5+ real students
- Analyze learning outcomes and engagement data
- Create handoff documentation for the engineering team
- Present to the startup's leadership and receive recommendation
What you produce
- Learning experience design document
- Interactive Figma prototype
- User testing results
- EdTech startup recommendation
- Intravarsity Proof-of-Work credential
